Dear Visitor...

That's right darling, this site debuted online on Valentine's Day - a perfect (unplanned, I swear) way for me to show how much I love Gojyo (putting aside that fact that he's drop-dead sexy). ♥

Usually this is where I ramble about how much said character means to me and how much of an impact he/she has made in the anime/manga, etc. But I don't even know where to begin with Gojyo - two words come to mind though. Flawlessly imperfect. Just like everything is in Saiyuki, drastically imperfect, but absolutely beautiful in its own way. Has anyone else noticed that I tend to go on completely incoherent thought patterns when I start describing Saiyuki?

Let me add that Gojyo is everything in a man that I absolutely despise. I would not be able to stand the horrendous cigarette smoking, the ridiculous gambling, and his endless flirtations. If I remember correctly, I believe I was trying really hard to like Hakkai when I first started watching Saiyuki, but somewhere along the journey I fell for Gojyo anyways. As expected from the self-proclaimed ladies man.

Since this letter has the utmost possibility of becoming an essay, I'll throw in a little quote for good measure:

"I can pay for my board if I just win some boring bets and I can get through the night by seducing women with cheap words. Living is disgustingly easy. I just have to not look anyone in the eyes."

That - in my opinion - is one of the best quotes from Gojyo in the entire series. It captures his character magnificently. Having such a difficult and tragic childhood, Gojyo seems to have given up on life itself - living just for the sake of living. But even though he doesn't expect his life to amount to anything, he still seems to hold onto to a tiny sliver of hope that life will turn out differently than what he had originally thought. The same goes for the three other Saiyuki boys.

I think that Saiyuki gives off an I-don't-give-Hell-about-anything-or-anyone kind of feeling and for the most part, the Saiyuki boys play that role. But I also think that, despite pretending not to care, Gojyo is the nicest one out of the four. He has his innate set of values and sense of justice that sets him apart from the other characters. His personality is dynamic and real and under all the grumbling, swearing, and death threats to other members of the group, he really does care about them. Something which he'll never admit, of course.

And I like that. He may be considered the weakest out of the group of four, but he's the most human. I like that he's soft, that he has a conscience and that human emotions still shake him. I like that he always seems to love children and how he stands up to bullies. I love how he still cares enough about the society that rejects his genetics to try to correct things that he believes are wrong.

Yup, I absolutely adore Gojyo's character. That's all.

Lastly, I would like to thank Blok for allowing me to adopt this fanlisting in January 2009 and for granting me one of my top wishlisters. I can't thank you enough, I will take care of it to the best of my ability!

Remember folks, Saiyuki has yet to end (probably never will), so keep on supporting Gojyo, the beautiful Saiyuki series, and the wonderful Minekura-sensei! xoxoxo
